1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to improvements in hangers for trousers, shirts, hosiery and other garments.
The object of this invention is to provide a hanger equipped with a plurality of clamps having movable members biased by a spring or other resilient means to grip a garment or the like.
Another object of this invention is to provide a hanger which provides a plurality of linearly disposed independent clamps for simultaneously gripping a single or several garments.
Another object of my invention is to provide an improved and efficient garment hanger which is economical to manufacture and having fea tures that enables an operator to expeditiously attach and detach garments and to maintain the garment securely in the exact position as attached.
This invention has several objects, advantages and features, some of which, with the foregoing, will be especially set forth in the accompanying drawings and following description of the specific embodiment of my invention chosen for a complete disclosure thereof.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a complete garment hanger.
Figure 2- is sectional elevation along line 2, 2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional elevation along line 3, 3 of Figure 1.
Numeral 5 designates a yoke, preferably formed of sheet or strip of non-ferrous metal with a channel section having a face 9 and side flanges I, 1 projecting rearwardly therefrom. From face 6 a plurality of pairs of duplicate areas have been perforated at H, cut and formed at right angles thereto to provide parallel supports 8, 8 integral therewith and projecting forwardly therefrom for mounting clamps 9, 9 by means of cotter pins l0, it which functions as a shaft for the baring about to be referred to.
Clamps 9 are of the common type having duplicate fingers I2, I 2 each of which is embraced by an arm l3 of resilient helix Hi that also provides an external bearing for the fingers and retains these three members as an integral unit. The interior surface of the helix functions as a bearing for the reception of cotter pin I!) which is of sufficient proportions to enter through perforations II and said internal bearing.
Centrally of yoke 5 in face 6 a perforation is provided for receiving screw bolt l5 which passes through an eye provided within loop l6 of a support member that is formed with hook I i and shank IS. The shank is shown lodged in a hole in the upper edge of flange i.
In use the garment hanger is hung from a 2 suitable support by means of hook I! and the garment attached thereto by the employment of one or more of the clamps according to the judgement of the operator.
It should be noted that by reason of the several clamps being closely spaced and retained on location a garment can be transversely stretched effectively and so retained against sagging produced by gravity, the weight of a garment plus included water. Thus, this garment hanger provides a facile effective means for curing, drying and storing a garment while under transverse and vertical tension.
From the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawings, the uses. ad-
' vantages and operation of my invention will be readily understood, especially by a skilled operator in laundries and dry-cleaning establishments. While I have disclosedthe preferred embodiment of my invention, variations thereof are possible without departure from the spirit of this invention, it is to be understood that the full scope thereof is to be limited only by the appended claim.
I claim:
In a garment hanger, the combination of a rectangular yoke and a plurality of clamps mounted thereon, said yoke member having a flat face, a flange projecting rearwardly from the upper edge thereof and provided with a hole midway between the ends of said flange, a plurality of tongue-like portions being struck from said face and projecting forwardly to provide a plurality of pairs of parallel vertical supports, pins extending horizontally through perforations in said supports for mounting said clamps, and a support member attached to said yoke, said support member having a shank that merges into an eye at one end and a hook at the other end of said shank with said shank projecting through said hole in said flange and the eye secured to said face by suitable means.
