Description

y 1951 J. J. GRIMBERG 2,554,825
DRIER I Filed April 23, 1949 4 TTORNEY Patented May 29', 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DRIER John J. Grimberg, New York, N. Y., assignor to Lydia S. Grimberg, Rochester, N. Y.
Application April 23, 1949, Serial No. 89,199
1-Claim. 1
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in driers, and it has for its object to provide a device which is especially adaptable for use in drying lighter things, such as ladies gloves, hosiery, lingerie, etc.
Thus, when vacationing or traveling, a person, and especially if a lady, will rarely have the facilities or time to have any laundering done outside, but will have to attend to such herself in, for instance, a hotel room, where facilities for doing 50 generally are lacking.
Under such circumstances with the present device, it is however possible for a lady under such and any circumstances, to obtain fresh and clean lingerie and hosiery, as with the facilities always found for washing such, said device will afford an easy opportunity for drying the same.
As the device is compact of construction and foldable it can be carried along in a traveling bag without taking up any appreciable space.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming part of this application, and in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of my device.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of my device in folded position; while Figure 3 is a top plan view of same, also in folded position.
My said device may be made of any suitable material, or combination thereof.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numerals I0, I indicate two strips of thin, but substantially rigid material; said strips are connected by means of a U-shaped member II, as each strip is independently pivotally secured to said U-shaped member II by means of eyelet fasteners 12, I2; a hook I3 is pivotally attached to the U-shaped member II by means of an eyelet fastener [4.
The said hook I3 is secured to the U-shaped member I l on this side of the strips I0, l0, which is opposite to the hanger members l5 proper, in order to permit the device to fold into a compact unit, as shown in Figures 2 and 3.
The said hanger members I5, while being somewhat of the conventional kind, are preferably made of plastic, so as not to damage the articles attached thereto; the hanger members [5 are turnably mounted on the strips l0, I0, in this instance, as shown, two on each strip.
dotted lines in Figure 1; said openings form an aperture when the two parts l6, l6 are brought together by means of a spring H, a hollow bolt I8 is inserted through this aperture and riveted at one end to the strip H), as shown at 22 in Figure 3, while the other end of the bolt 18 has one end of the spring I! mounted thereon, a Washer 19 is arranged on top of the end of the spring I1, and this end of the bolt subsequently bent over said washer, for instance by a stamping process, as may also be seen in Figure 3.
The hanger members l5 are of a width so that they, when in collapsed or folded position, will be flush with the strips I l, l I, thereby contributing to the compactness of the device.
The hanger members are, as hereinbefore described, adapted to support articles hung up for drying, as may be seen in Figure 1.
It is obvious that changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts, as shown, within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I do not, therefore, wish to limit myself to the exact construction shown and described herein.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
In a device of the class described, a drier, comprising two thin, flat strips of substantially rigid material, a U-shaped member one end of each of said strips being pivotally secured to said U- shaped member, the bottom edges of said strips being at their connection to the U-shaped member adapted to engage the bottom of the latter, whereby to be held in a horizontal position, when extended, a plurality of hangers, rivets pivotally connecting the latter to said strips, and a hook turnably secured to said U-shaped member on the side opposite said hangers, the latter being of a width equal to said strips, whereby to form a compact unit with the latter, when said strips are in a folded position.
