Description

CLOTHESPIN PACKAGE Filed Aug'. 28, 1940 ATTORNEYS Patented Mar. 24, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,277,642 oLoTHEsPiN PACKAGE Arthur D. Hayes, Montpelier, Vt. Application August 28, 1940, Serial No. 354,613
(Cl. 20G-46) 1 Claim.
This invention relates to clothespin packages, and its general object is to provide an attractive packa-ge of clothespins of the well known spring clip type, the pins being arranged and held in superimposed rows by means disposed along and about the rows of pins, with the latter clipped' thereon, and the pins thus assembled are incased within a protective wrapper of transparent material, with the result it will be seen that my package is neat in appearance, and that the pins are exposed, so that a purchaser can see at a glance the quantity, quality and type of pins within the package.
A further object is to provide a clothespin package from which the pins can be individually removed without materially disturbing the remainder.
A further object is to provide a package that is very simple and inexpensive, yet will tend to promote sale of the pins, due to the attractive and neat appearance presented by the package.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the package which forms the subject matter of the present invention.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view taken through the package.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the holding members.
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be noted that my package in the form shown consists of two parallel superimposed rows of clothespins of the usual spring' clip type, that includes a pair of spring pressed companion members formed to provide jaws I normally urged toward each other and handles 2 for mov- 'ing the jaws against the action of the springs 3.
parallel wall 5 of each member is wider than that of the other wall 6 thereof.
In assembling the pins in row formation, the jaws thereof are clipped to the narrow walls 6 for disposal of the pins in side by side relation, thence the rows are arranged one upon the other in a manner so that the handled ends of the pins are mounted within the channels and with the wide walls 5 disposed upon the outer faces of the rows, as clearly shown in Figure 2.
The pins thus assembled are incased within a transparent protective wrapper l formed from a single sheet of material, such as Cellophane or the like and wrapped about the assembled pins in a manner to provide overlapped edge portions 8 and flaps 9 at the ends of the wrapper, the flaps and overlapping edge portions being adhesively secured in place, as will be apparent upon inspection of Figure 1.
The channel members 4 are made from any suitable inexpensive sheet material, such as cardboard and the exposed faces thereof may have any suitable indicia thereon such as advertising matter, the number, name and quality of 'the pins within the package.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A clothespin package comprising a plurality of clothespins of the spring pressed handled jaw type assembled in a pair of superimposed rows, a cross sectional substantially U-shaped member for each row and each member having one parallel wall thereof wider than the other, the members being of a length co-extensive with that of the rows, each member having the jaws of its row clamped to the .narrow wall rthereof for holding the pins in row formation, said pins being arranged with the jaws of one row opposed to the jaws of the other row and having the handles mounted within the channels of said members with the wide walls disposed about the outer faces of the rows for holding the latter assembled, and a transparent protective wrapper adhesively secured about the assembled rows for incasing the latter.
