Description

um'rso STATES PATENT oFFlcia .101m n. Loom; or sirname, more om l I Application med November 11, 1931. Serial No. 57%439.
My invention relates to a clasp or clip designed primarily for use in connection with neckties of the tour-in-handtype,'but itis to he understood that a clasp or clip in accordance with this .invention may he enuployed in any kconnection' `tor which it ma he found applicable.
rthe essential olojects ot rny invention are to provide an article ot the class referred to for givin a our-inhand neclrtie the appearance of eingtied Without tyirnip the lrnot therein; to provide :tor the simulation oi a tied hour-in-hand necltie Without tying the latter thereby overcoming the Wrinlrling of the nocht-ie due to iori'ning oi' the linot therein.; and providing tor an extended period ot l Wear ot the neclrtie hy maintaining the smooth appearance of the loody portion thereor.
Further objects ot my invention are to provide7 in a manner as hereinafter set forth, aclasp or clip yfor the purpose referred to which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, compact, thoroughly ecient in its use, conveniently operated, readily assembled., formed in a manner to reduce cost et production, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
To the ahove ends my invention consists ot such parts and in such combination of parts which tall Withinthe scope of the invention as claimed.
ln the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation ot a clasp or clip in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3 3 Fi re 2.
Figureli is a plan oi the form of blank :from which the retainer elements are set up. Figure 5 is a front elevation oi a necktie of the tour-in-hand type showing the adaptation therewithoi a clasp or clip in accordance with my invention. p
Figure 6 is a side elevation or a `four-inhand necktie with the clasp or clip attached thereto to provide for the simulation 'of a knot in the necktie. 1
A clasp or clip in accordance with my invention and which .will be hereinafter termed part 2l ot an outwardly directed combined .thumh and finger piece 5 disposed at right .angles to carrier 3.. Between the transverse median and thatend oit carrier l which vmerges into the hase part d there is'ertended from the side edges ot carrier I3 and in a direction at right angles to the' inner tace ot the latter apairoft spaced, parallel ears o, 7 having aligningffopenings 8. 'llhe carrier 3' has extending :trom one side edge and at right angles to its inner tace a retaining tooth S or triangular contour positioned in proximity to the other end ot the carrier, and the latter has extending' from its other side edge and at right angles to its inner tace a pair ot spaced retaining teeth il), ll ot triangular contour7 the former positioned at the said other end ot the carrier. rlhe hase ot the teeth lll.; ll merge into each other. 'lhe teeth l0, ll provide a lil-shaped opening l2.
When the retainer elements are set up, the tooth 9 ot element l entends het-Ween the teeth l0, l1 ci" element 2 and the tooth 9' ot the lat-- ter extends between the teeth l0, ll of element l. rlhe ear 6, of element l opposes the outer tace ot the ear ot element 2 and the ear Z ot element i opposes the inner lace ot the ear d ci element 2. The openings 8 ot" lthe ears align when the latter are in opposed position. The elements l, 2 are spring controlled and theteeth thereof normally are in interengaging position. Each carrier and its teeth provide a spring controlled clamping member.,
Extending through the aligning openingsv or the apertured ears is a pivot in 13 upon I '5.0 a clip includes a pair of oppositely disposed 1s set up'for the purpose-of offsetting ear 6. 100
The part of the material employed for osetting ear 6 is indicated at 17. The arrangement permits of the ears being disposed in the position shown in Figure 3.
The retainer elements are set up from/the form of blank shown in Figure 4. The blank comprising an oblong flat portion 18 provided s between its transverse median and one end of.` The extensions are apertured as at 21.
