    Google is proud to call Ohio home to one of our data centers.

    In November of 2019, Google officially broke ground on its $600 million data center in New Albany, Ohio. Once fully operational, our data center will employ a number of people in a variety of full-time and contractor roles, including computer technicians, engineers, and various food services, maintenance, and security roles.

    Why did Google choose New Albany?

    New Albany has the right combination of energy infrastructure, developable land, and available workforce for the data center.

      In the community

      At Google, we’re committed to playing a positive role in every community in which we operate around the world. Through investments and local initiatives that utilize our tools and expertise, we’re working to help businesses, educational institutions, community collaboratives, nonprofits, and individuals create and thrive in a sustainable, knowledge-based economy.       Partnerships and events

      Grow with Google has partnered with nearly 300 organizations in the state to train over 180,000 Ohioans on digital skills, including public libraries, chambers of commerce, and more.

      Google is invested in expanding access to Google Career Certificates to help more people — particularly underserved — grow their careers. To date, the Google IT Support Professional Certificate has been implemented through 100+ community colleges and dozens of career technical education sites, including Cuyahoga Community College and Lorain County Community College. More than 4,300 Ohioans have enrolled in the program, and 58 percent of people who take the Google IT Support Certificate course are Black, Latinx, women, or veterans.

      Google’s community investment program supports organizations and initiatives that focus on issues we’re passionate about, including education, sustainability, access to the internet and technology, economic growth, health and science, and the arts.

      Since 2019, we’ve invested more than $1 million in Ohio nonprofits and schools.

      Green initiatives

      Google is committed to making the internet better for the environment. We welcome proposals from data center communities that reduce carbon emissions in the immediate region, including projects that increase the renewable energy mix powering our data centers. Applicants can be nonprofit or for-profit entrepreneurs. We look for low generation cost, innovation, and total carbon reduction. Please submit proposals to newalbany@google.com.
