Captain John David Anderson, 71, passed away on Friday March 1, 2019 due to complications of an emergency surgery. He was born March 13, 1947 in Panama City, graduated from Bay High School in 1965. He was a third generation charter and commercial fisherman. He followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Virgil Anderson and Charles Stephen Anderson. During his childhood, he spent holidays and summers fishing with his brothers and his father. Johnny captained his boats the Buccaneer and the Pisces and traveled extensively throughout the Gulf catching Red Snapper and Grouper. He was well known in the industry as a top producer, supplying seafood to dealers along the Gulf Coast. When the Red Snapper fishery was cancelled by the Federal Management Agency he took his boat to Honduras and fished the Caribbean Sea for one year. He was held in high regard by his peers and was known to be fair, honest and took excellent care of his crewmen. He retired from commercial fishing in 2012. During his retirement, he divided his time between his home on Grand Lagoon and his Camp at Howard’s Creek. He enjoyed fishing for leisure with the company of his wife Betsy. He lived a noble life, he was considerate, kind and caring. He had a calming demeanor was dutiful, loyal and spoke with purpose. He loved to laugh telling stories and jokes. He was a sports fan and enjoyed watching baseball games and was a dedicated gator football fan. He loved his family and always let everyone know that he loved them and that he was especially proud of his daughters. He is survived by his mother Mary; his wife, Betsy Anderson; his brothers, Jerry Anderson and Carl (Jana) Anderson; his sisters, Sarah (John) Mason and Tillie (Darwin) Fowler; his daughters, Cathy Lancaster, Jennifer Duncan and his son-in-law, Bubba Duncan; his step son, Jason (Sarah) Christo; his grandchildren, Allyson, Justin, Emily, Grace, Jase and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Services will be held on Saturday March 9, 2019 at 2 PM at Wilson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Anchorage Children’s Home, Boys and Girls Clubs and the Humane Society.
