  The talented Israeli singer-songwriter, Idan Raichel, has always been fascinated with music since a young age and has incorporated different styles that influenced him into his own unique style. His music has been described as many genres such as pop, folk, and world music. However you want to classify his music, it is quite clear that Idan Raichel has the immense talent to present his music in a highly engaging way.

  Idan Raichel’s musical performance is highly intricate and beautiful. Idan usually plays the piano in most of his songs. His piano playing often consists of colorful jazz chords played in a slow tempo progression. His piano playing often comes close to sounding similar to the pop music of Bruce Hornsby. The Middle Eastern style of music is also deeply engrained into his sound with the use of Arabic sounding scales played on the guitar. His strong love of Ethiopian music also seeps through into his musical style. Most of his songs are sung in the Hebrew language, which perfectly complements the sound of his music. The harsh consonantal sound of the Hebrew language nicely juxtaposes the soft, serene sound of Idan’s piano.

  Idan Raichel’s music is so diverse because he is constantly collaborating with diverse musicians. His first musical project incorporated 70 different musicians that were competent in a myriad of different styles such as Ethiopian, Israeli, Arabic, and Yemenite music. He has also been known to collaborate with some large names in the pop music industry such as Alicia Keys, who he appeared with during her Central Park concert. Idan Raichel has taken the traditional styles of Israeli music and made his own version of it, and by doing this he has introduced the whole world to a different brand of music.

• Great band great people they have great music with great lyrics they know how to put a show and have a multicultural talent, i am a declared idan raichel fan. However this concert in DC was terrible they messed up so much! They were soooo high!

• Great show! I took my parents to see him and they could not stop talking about how they enjoyed hearing him live. His music captivated us from the first note. He is so talented! I would definitely see him again in concert.

• Superb concert. Piano accoustic evening and a lot of rapport with the audience and a great mix of older tracks and contemporary music. The intimacy of the venue at 229 certainly encouraged a great evening
