FN-49 Collection

Post by capt14k »

I bought my first FN-49 a Century Eagle of Saladin because I liked the look of it. Then I bought a Colombian in the wrong stock, which I have since sold, and replaced with a correct Colombian. That Colombian though had me hooked. Plus it fit with my South American Mauser Collection due to the Crests.

Now I have just about completed my F-49 Collection. All Matching and Correct

Argentine
Venezuelan Low Number
Egyptian Eagle of Saladin
Egyptian 3 Sling Swivel w/ Matching Stock and Original Stock Disc
Lux Low number w/ unnumbered stock
Colombian
Venezuelan High Number.

Still looking for a Lux High Number with matching numbered stock. Lux Bayonet w/ AL Serial and Colombian Bayonet. Lux, Egyptian, and Argentine Slings.

Would also one day like an Original Lux Sniper, but for now I will have to settle for an Original AL Marked Scope which is on its way.

I may never get all the contracts due to their rarity in the States Brazilian, Belgian, Indonesian, and Congo, but it won't stop me from trying. Belgian I think I have the best shot at. Would really like an Argentine in original 7.65 but they are unheard of.

If anyone has any of the items I am looking for they would be willing to sell please don't hesitate to PM me. Also if anyone has a Colombian FN-49 please send me some pics serial along with serial number, whether it is all matching or not, what butt plate it has, and if there is a cross bolt. I am conducting my own little Colombian mini survey.

Thank you. That is exactly what Goose (Wayne Johnson) called the ones on my fantasy list. Unicorns is a good description.

I was close to a Belgian but the crest was scrubbed. Since the crests are one of the reasons I started collecting them it wasn't worth the extra the seller wanted. A Indonesian sold on gunbroker last month, but the stock was cracked and it was non matching with an Egyptian Gas Knob. At $2,500 it wasn't for me. The fact that two sold recently gives me some hope.

Belgian I think I have the best chance of finding. Though many had the crest removed. I want one with the crest.

An Indonesian sold on gunbroker for $2,500 but the stock was cracked and it was mismatched with Egyptian parts. Supposedly in Indonesia there are 6000 Navy FN-49 in storage. We just need the laws changed so they can be imported as is. I know of one Brazilian in America and it is absolutely perfect. Seller will not sell. Who knows what happened to the other Brazilians. As for an Argentine in original 7.65 configuration rumor is there is maybe 3 out there but only one is known in a museum in Argentina. I have considered converting a converted 7.62x51 Argentine back to 7.65x53, but it would require a master gunsmith to do so. Maybe one day.

Nice bunch you got there. I recommend you take that butt pad off the blond one. If left on it will discolor the wood and you don't want that.

Thank you for the heads up. I usually do leave it off but it completed the faux sniper look. That one is my first FN-49. It's an Eagle of Saladin Century Put together. All parts are original from Century. Stock is a Belgian Replacement. They built the Eagle of Saladin FN-49 Rifles using left over FN Made Egyptian Receivers that Egypt never built into rifles. It is a fun rifle to shoot. What makes it great is it has the 2 piece firing pin and firing pin safety stop. As well as the cheek rest, butt pad, and Original Echo Military Scope Mount. Let's me shoot 8mm Mauser out of an FN-49 without worrying about my all original and matching Egyptian 3 Sling Swivel blowing up.

I picked these up as well. Original Lux A.L. Scopes not the ALB Belgian. Like New Condition. 2 of only 92 left in the world. Both with matching sunshade. One with the original Echo Mount.

Is the action on those similar to an M1A? They kinda look like first cousins.

The only M1A I owned was a M1A SOCOM for about 3 days. I couldn't find a wood stock and sold it so I'm not really sure about the actions.

I know the M1A is definitely more accurate, and the FN-49 has a gas piston.

There maybe a happy ending to my M1A story the guy I sold it to fit a M14 stock to it and offered to sell it back to me for what he paid me + the $50 he paid for the stock. I have some other things in the works right now, but he offered to hold on to it for me til November. Here is what it looks like now.
