Wegmans of Warrington reached new heights this year for contributions to its Care About Hunger campaign.

Employees and customers at Wegmans raised $42,037.94, the highest campaign total to date, with the proceeds to benefit the Bucks County Opportunity Council’s food program.

The Opportunity Council distributes donated food throughout its network of more than 60 pantries and food distribution sites in Bucks County. Last year, the Opportunity Council distributed more than 1.7 million pounds of food with its partners.

In addition, the council brings fresh, healthy food to families in need through Fresh Connect Bucks County, a free weekly farmers’ market in Warminster, Ottsville and Bristol. Fresh Connect is a collaboration of Bucks County Opportunity Council, Philabundance, Rolling Harvest Food Rescue and St. Mary Medical Center, with funding by the United Way of Bucks County.

“We could not do what we do without the help of Wegmans’ Care About Hunger program,” said Heather Foor, food program manager for the Opportunity Council. “The program makes a big difference in how we distribute food throughout Bucks County. We are grateful for all the support we receive from Wegmans. Their partnership, their employees and their customers make a real difference for families suffering from food insecurity in the county.”

Along with the money raised through this year’s campaign, Wegmans also donated almost 100,000 pounds of food to the council in 2018.

As the lead anti-poverty, nonprofit agency in Bucks County, BCOC is dedicated to ending poverty by connecting people with the resources to thrive. For more than 50 years, the Opportunity Council has served low-income families by helping them stabilize when in crisis, garner resources to achieve a livable wage, gain additional education and training, and work toward economic self-sufficiency.
