Karl Blossfeldt (1865 Schielo, Germany -1932 Berlin, Germany)

Maybe the name you do not know, but surely something of his work yes, it is present for more than 150 years. His photographic work could be classified as naturalistic and at the same time abstract. A very modern combination for the canons of his time, member of the New Objectivity (Neue Sachlichkeit)  he considered himself more a lover of plants than a photographer.

During his professional life he did not get much recognition until in 1928 he published “Urformen Der Kunst” (The original forms of art) and already at the end of his life published his second book “Wundergarten der Natur” (The wonderful garden of nature) calculates that at the end of his life had more than 6,000 negatives.

Botanical images are easily recognized thanks to their aesthetics and delicacy. His work is used until today as a model of artistic drawing and subject of botanical study.
