New technology in Panama City Beach is freeing up hands, time and energy while also continuing to save lives.

Captain Jacob Gorman, PCB paramedic, and fire fighter said, “we purchased a CPR device. It’s a mechanical compression device created by Defib Tech and it’s called the lifeline arm.”

The machine takes over the manual job of a firefighter in times of emergency.

“The science says the quality is not any different. The biggest thing is maintaining compressions,” said Captain Gorman.

He says this new machine is allowing his team members to perform in ways they couldn’t before. “The first incident we had was at one of the condos on the beach. Both elevators were out of service due to maintenance so we actually had to carry the patient down three flights of stairs. If we had to do manual compressions, that would not have occurred.”

So when the call is made, the fire department is ready to offer an even higher quality of service to its patients.

The department plans to buy another lifeline arm in the next couple of weeks.
