🎶 the answer to a neverending story

🎶 the answer to a neverending story

Still on my 80s kick (when will I not be?)…

I forced my kids to watch The NeverEnding Story.

Really, I was just craving the movie like a big bowl of Mac & Cheese.

And, ya know what?

The movie held our attention, despite the mediocre special effects.

What grabbed me the most?

ALL THE WORDS. GIVE ME THE WORDS. I WANT TO EAT THE WORDS.

I devoured the dialogue between the protagonist, Atreyu, and the wolflike creature, G’mork, as Fantasia fell apart around them…

Here’s my favorite part of the script -- the part when Atreyu expresses his frustration to G'mork about his failure to reach the boundaries of Fantasia...

...

G’mork: Fantasia has no boundaries.

*A storm grows closer to the city, slowly shaking it to pieces… Rocks fall here and there.*

Atreyu: That’s not true. You’re lying.

G’mork: Foolish boy. Don’t you know anything about Fantasia?

It’s the world of human fantasy. Every part, every creature of it, is a piece of the dreams and hopes of mankind.

Therefore, it has no boundaries.

*There’s a crash and more rocks fall.*

Atreyu: But why is Fantasia dying then?

G’mork: Because people have begun to lose their hopes and forget their dreams. So the nothing grows stronger.

Atreyu: What is the nothing?!

G’mork: It’s the emptiness that’s left. It’s like a despair, destroying this world. And I have been trying to help it.

Atreyu: But why?

G’mork: Because people who have no hopes are easy to control. And whoever has control has the power.

*A large crash shakes the ground as the two characters battle it out for control, followed by a happy ending because, remember, it’s the 80s.*

You know...

I don’t know why, but I needed to hear those words and the tension in that exchange.

Heck, I needed the entire movie.

I needed to remind myself that the nothing grows stronger when we lose our hopes and dreams.

So you and I can't lose our hopes and dreams, ok?

Even on rough days, when we question ourselves, our businesses, and maybe even our future. Even then.

And, hey, if you find yourself losing a firm grasp on your hopes and dreams for your business, you're not alone.

You can keep Fantasia alive, dream big, and create the roadmap you need to achieve your vision. You can do it with us this November.

It all starts in The Copywriter Think Tank mastermind. Apply today if you’re interested in taking control over your future as we kick off a new year.

We're adding a few new members this November.

Until then, you’ll find me belting the lyrics to the theme song...

Reach the stars
Fly a fantasy
Dream a dream
And what you see will be

Rhymes that keep their secrets
Will unfold behind the clouds
And there upon a rainbow
Is the answer to a neverending story
Ah-ha-ha-ha-ha

Team Atreyu,

Kira

P.S. Here's a recent "win" Think Tank memberCorrie Myers, shared with us last week...

"Based on what I have projected for the next few months, I hit my income goal of $90k, and will just about hit six figures.

The projects are both deliverables and for people I love (mission-driven brand voice and emails)

In the last two months I've gotten REALLY clear on what I want most (control over time and energy), and I'm ending my year in balance.

All of this while having (most) mornings and afternoons with my kids, Pilates workouts in the morning, taking almost all of December off...and being wildly postpartum this ENTIRE YEAR. lol. #teamnosleep #teamlotsofemotions

I'm going to try and book out a February Brand Voice project in December...not just so that I can clear six figures but so that I can create the balance and alignment I want most.

THANK YOU, thank you for creating the space for me to make this happen.

I know I'm not on all the calls, but I watch/listen to them on walks and when I'm folding laundry. You've created a thriving ecosystem, and I'm so grateful to be a part of it."

And here I thought I was the only one who has this movie in their top 3 of all time! Thank you! I’ve put off rewatching it so that when I do, it’ll surprise and delight me again like the first time. Why does the line “dream a dream” in the lyrics remind me of another song from around that time? I can almost hear the next few lines but it’s driving me crazy. Those words were actually spoken, not sung. Is it the theme song from Big Blue Marble? <sigh> Somebody help me out! Thanks for the walk down memory lane, Kira, and for relating that pivotal scene to our daily lives. I’ll be thinking of that often.

I remember bawling my eyes out as a kid during the horse in the swamp scene. Such an iconic movie though!

The scene with Gmork that you described in this email terrified the hell out of me as a kid. But this remains my all-time favourite movie.
