Helen Mirren looks unrecognizable playing Israel’s ‘Iron Lady’ Golda Meir

Helen Mirren, is that you?

In new photos exclusively obtained by Page Six, the Oscar winner looks unrecognizable portraying former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir in the upcoming film “Golda.”

Pics show Mirren, 76, wearing facial prosthetics on the film’s set in London to transform into the “Iron Lady” of Israeli politics.

Mirren sported a notably frumpy look that included a loose dress and her silver hair pulled back into a messy bun. Pics also show the typically glamorous actress smoking cigarettes, in character, with co-star Camille Cottin.

Prior to her death in 1978, Meir supported her country during the Yom Kippur War of 1973 — when Egypt, Syria and Jordan launched a surprise attack on Israel to reclaim territory lost during the Six-Day War in 1967.

“Golda Meir was a formidable, intransigent and powerful leader,” Mirren previously said of playing the iconic leader.

“It is a great challenge to portray her at the most difficult moment of her extraordinary life. I only hope I do her justice!”

Aesthetically speaking, Meir and Mirren couldn’t be more opposite. The “Good Liar” star told People in July that she enjoys getting glammed up on the daily, something she kept up even in the beginning stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Every day I put on makeup,” she told the outlet, noting that it has nothing to do with appeasing her husband, director Taylor Hackford.

“I didn’t do it for Taylor because Taylor never notices. He asks if I’ve got makeup on or not and doesn’t really care, but he certainly doesn’t notice.”

In addition to rocking a full face of makeup, Mirren is known for putting her svelte frame on display. During a 2019 interview with KTLA’s Sam Rubin, she reflected on the 2008 paparazzi photo of her wearing a red-hot bikini that went viral.

“So we were there [on an Italian beach], swimming a little bit, lying in the sun, and Taylor said, ‘Stand up, I want to take a picture of you,’” Mirren recounted.

”So I stood up, and sucked my tummy in because my husband was taking my photo,” she added. “I tried to suck my cheeks in. I tried to look … good.”
