Before a laser hair removal treatment

Congratulations if you have finally decided to have your hair removed by the best method- laser. The hair removal is permanent too! Please read all the information to ensure you get the most from the experience, and give yourself the best chance of getting hair free sooner!

The consultation

If you have not been to the clinic before we request that all new patients come in for a complimentary consultation and patch test. The consultation will allow us to have a look at your skin and hair, and have a good chat as to what, between us, we feel is the most effective course of action.

As we require a patch test to be performed at least 48 prior to the actual session, we can do this during the consultation. This involves a few pulses with the laser. This will allow you to have an idea of what is involved, will allow us to determine the best options for you, and assess your suitability to different settings of the laser device.

Before the laser hair removal session

Prior to your laser hair removal session please adhere to the following:

• Do nothing to your hair, except shaving, but 24 hours before please, no more or less .
• No plucking, waxing, bleaching, hair removal creams or mousses.
• If you have tanned skin please wait at least 4 weeks before a removal session.
• Please arrive makeup free and product free in the area to be treated.
• Gently exfoliate the area 3-4 days before the session.
• Medication check. If you have been given a new medication since your consultation you must let the clinic know. Give us a call to check if unsure.
• Avoid caffeine on the day if you can go without it. It helps with sensitivity..

After a laser hair removal treatment

• You may have some redness or mild swelling after your appointment
• Please avoid swimming pools, saunas, gyms and spas for at least 24 hours post appointment.
• Do not  use any other hair removal treatment products or similar treatments (waxing, electrolysis or tweezing) that will disturb the hair follicle in the treatment area for 4-6 weeks after the laser treatment is performed. Shaving may be performed
•  There are no restrictions on  bathing or showering, just be gentle for the first couple of days and keep the temperature down
• Underarm deodorant may be irritating for the first 24 hours
• Avoid the sun. We recommend a high SPF factor cream at all times
• Please avoid the use of all products on your skin with the exception of Aloe Vera gel. (Non-alcoholic gel) for at least 24 hours
• Between 5 and 14 days following the appointment you will start to shed hair. Gentle exfoliation will help the process along

If you follow the advice here you will have the best chance of getting the most out of your laser session. Please note that if you have any doubts about taking a certain medication, or using a certain product please feel free to contact us, just to be on the safe side. There are certain medications that induce photosensitivity. Others increase the risk of bruising. As above if you have been prescribed a new medicine since your consultation please check with us.
