This bust representing Pellegrino Rossi is made by Pietro Tenerani. Rossi (1789-1869) was a distinguished economist and leading figure of the Risorgimento and a politician and jurist. He was assassinated by a stab wound to the neck.
Between 1817 and 1830 Tenerani worked as the principal assistant in the studio of the Danish neo-classical sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen, whose style he continued into the mid 19th century.
